Department of Condensed Matter Physics and Material Sciences
An important part of the Department's research thrust is in the area of
nano-sciences. This is true for experimental as well as theoretical
studies. Electronic structure of novel and complex materials: including
bulk compounds, alloys, surfaces and clusters forms an integral part of
the Department's theoretical research.
Studies in magnetism and superconductivity also form particular interest areas of the researchers in this Department.
There is considerable overlap of interest with the Department of
Chemical, Biological and macro-molecular sciences and there is
collaborative research between members of the two Departments.
The department in collaboration with the Department of Chemical, Biological and macro-molecular sciences is setting up
computational facilities for an Advanced Materials Research Unit.
