It brings us a great pleasure
to
announce an International conference on Science with VLF during 13th
-18th March,
2010. The subjects will include the science of
electron precipitation,
possible relation between seismic effects and ionospheric behaviour,
study of solar flares and other high energy phenomena using VLF,
effects of solar
eclipse etc. using the ionosphere as a detector.
Great progress in ionospheric research in Kolkata was made by Sisir K.
Mitra and A. P. Mitra. Recent Tsunami and a
large number of earthquakes in the south Asia region motivated us to
concentrate
on such studies once again.
The conference will cover all aspects of the
observational and theoretical results related to VLF wave
propagation. It is expected that the present meeting will produce a
collective knowledge from the VLF researchers of different places of
world combining with our experience over last ten years or so to have a
more precise understanding of the subject.
The conference is
organized by the Department of Astrophysics and Cosmology of S.N. Bose
National Centre for Basic Sciences. To let visitors have a taste
of
Kolkata and surrounding regions amidst natural beauty, we are holding
the first four days of the conference at SNBNCBS auditorium.
Following this
meeting, we plan to have the concluding session and panel discussions
on 17th of March in an island auditorium in the vicinity of Sundarban.
The conference proceedings will be published by American Institute of
Physics.
