Members
of the SNB Libary should adhere closely to the regulations on copyright
while copying documents.
While
the Copyright Act, 1957 of India, amended in 1984, is not very
specific about photocopying and electronic services, all the Developed
Countries are extremely strict about it.
Following
summarises the European Union copyright directive as implemented
in UK with effect form 31 October 2003:
How
much can be copied?
One chapter from a book
One entire
case from a published law report
Or up to 5%
of the publication, if greater than above.
One article
from a magazine/journal/periodical
One poem in
an anthology

What
can be copied?
Any
book, magazine, journal or other periodical published in the UK
or in any of the Mandating Territories unless it is included in
the list of Excluded Categories and Works.
[Mandating
Territories: Australia, Canada (including Quebec), Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, The Netherlands, New
Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland].
Works
published in the USA by publishers identified on the list of Participating
US Publishers.
