Welcome, to my personal page. In this web page I will list a few things on cosmology and try to direct absolute newcomers on that subject
to some really interesting websites. Also this web page will keep track of the work that I do ( useful I hope!). I like tinkering with my
computer and have a knack for programming. I found the Web a great new media to explore my creative abilities. This entire web page was designed
and hand coded by me from scratch. I will try to maintain and update this web page whenever I get the time to do it. Give me your feedback about
what you think about this web page, what you like and don't like about it, what you would like to see, and I will try my best to comply ☺.
While pursuing my +2 studies I developed a fascination about the universe and wanted to know more about it. I realized that to pursue that goal I had to complete my B.Sc.
in physics and then subsequently M.Sc., and only then in my Ph.D. would I be able to dwell on that subject.
A lot of people get confused about the differences between astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. I too at one point had thought that I would become an astrophysicist.
But later I realized that my tastes were more suited to the subject of cosmology. Now it won't be possible to elaborate here on the differences between the aforementioned subjects.
In short cosmology is the study of the evolution of the universe. We live in the universe, our fates are tied to it, so we should try to learn about it. How did it originate? Will the universe
cease to exist at one point in the future or will it be there forever? Was there anything before the universe was created? These are, but a few, of the questions that cosmologists try to answer.
If you are new to this subject just try to read some readily available popular accounts of cosmology, I guarantee that you will be fascinated.
PUBLICATIONS
Here I will list the papers that I have written on my subject of research. The list will include both published and as yet unpublished papers. If you are interested in reading them please click on the links
provided. Hopefully this list will continue to grow! Also listed here will be the various talks that I have given at one point of time or another. They are presented here in flash file format. If you are
interested view them by all means!
PAPERS
Click the paper titles to see the abstract of the papers.
Click the “View” buttons to see the presentations in flash format. Use mouse clicks or keyboard to advance through the animations. You can view them in full-screen if you so wish.
White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars
This talk gives an introduction to white dwarfs and neutron stars. It is simple and straightforward with no mathematical details involved, but a bit text heavy I am afraid.
A k-essence model of Inflation, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy
This talk was given at Bosefest 2009 and is about my paper of the same title. This is special to me because I received the Best Talk award for this one :) ! Also this was presented at YAM 2009, Kharagpur. Go ahead and check it out.
Here I will list a few websites that present information about the subject of cosmology. The list will contain sites that are attractive to the absolute layman and also useful to experienced physicists.
The list is arranged in no particular order. I will try to update this list if I find more such sites. Do let me know if you know any such sites and I will include it in this list.

k-essence model of inflation, dark matter, and dark energy
We investigate the possibility for k-essence dynamics to reproduce the primary features of inflation in the early universe, generate dark matter subsequently, and finally account
for the presently observed acceleration. We first show that for a purely kinetic k-essence model the late-time energy density of the universe when expressed simply as a sum of a
cosmological constant and a dark matter term leads to a static universe. We then study another k-essence model in which the Lagrangian contains a potential for the scalar field as
well as a noncanonical kinetic term. We show that such a model generates the basic features of inflation in the early universe, and also gives rise to dark matter and dark energy at
appropriate subsequent stages. Observational constraints on the parameters of this model are obtained.
Unified model of k-inflation, dark matter, and dark energy
We present a k-essence model where a single scalar field is responsible for the early expansion of the universe through the process of k-inflation and at appropriate subsequent stages
acts both as dark matter and dark energy. The Lagrangian contains a potential for the scalar field as well as a non-canonical kinetic term, and is of the form F(X) V(\phi) which has been
widely used as a k-essence Lagrangian. After the period of inflation is over the model can be approximated as purely kinetic k-essence, generating dark matter and dark energy at late times.
We show how observational results are used to put constraints on the parameters of this model.
Future deceleration due to cosmic backreaction in presence of the event horizon
The present acceleration of the universe leads to the formation of a cosmological future event horizon. We explore the effects of the event horizon on cosmological backreaction
due to inhomogeneities in the universe. Beginning from the onset of the present accelerated era, we show that backreaction in presence of the event horizon causes acceleration
to slow down in the subsequent evolution. Transition to deceleration occurs eventually, ensuring avoidance of a big rip.
