Abut the Workshop

Technology was acknowledged as the most important capital in nation building in the Scientific Policy Resolution, 1958, which had given a commitment to encourage teaching & research of science in all its forms in an unfettered environment.

The focus of the Technology Policy Statement, 1983 was on attaining technological self-reliance related to people’s aspirations & development of need-based appropriate indigenous technology, which would bring in qualitative improvement in the life of our common man, as well as ensure faster development of the disadvantaged areas & weaker sections of the society.

The Science & Technology Policy, 2003, while launching a package of initiatives for attracting our best talents in the arena of scientific research & rejuvenating our scientific establishments, emphasized on removal of poverty, hunger & malnutrition, creation of employment through science & technology as well as greater integration of inputs from research & development with programmes of socio-economic sectors.

The vision of the Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) Policy, 2013 is to accelerate STI-led solutions for faster, sustainable & inclusive growth & that STI system would be for the people; the Indian society would be its major stakeholders; innovation would be for inclusive growth ensuring access, availability & affordability of solutions to as large a population as possible.

In this backdrop S.N.Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata is organizing this one-day workshop on “Science for Inclusive Growth”, in which eminent speakers will deliberate on their initiatives for realization of the vision of building an inclusive society on the strength of the knowledge & application of science.
